It has been hot. It has been rainy. And it is summer! However, GEMS students have been enjoying themselves at summer STEM Camp like never before. GEMS teachers have taken the target of the FWSU Action Plan to another level. Students are using collaborative inquiry, problem solving and creative learning opportunities to strengthen their math, science and engineering skills.
Here is what Principal Steve Emery had to say about these exciting summer learning days:
“I am thoroughly impressed with the education that our summer camp teachers are providing for children. As students work through the design process they are given the opportunity to learn more and apply new knowledge to their tests. Children are happy, engaged, and love being in school on these “hot” July days. I am seeing great things in each classroom, and this is exactly what needs to be going on in our school every day for better understanding and learning to occur throughout the year.”
Bringing STEM to the forefront is essential for all of our students. Although our campers are still too young to be concerned about their future career, STEM jobs rank as the second-fastest growing sector in our country. It is estimated that 8.6 million STEM-related jobs will be available in 2018 according to the National Math and Science Institute. Many of these will go unfilled if are students are not prepared.
