Action Step – Develop opportunities for students to collaborate, innovate, create and conceptualize in all learning settings.

Indicator of Success – Students are engaged in answering authentic questions and solving problems in collaborative settings.

For many of us, memories of physical education class in school entail visions of dodgeballs whizzing by our heads, desperately climbing a rope hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the gym, or attempting to finish the timed mile while getting lapped by members of the Cross-Country Running team.

However, years have passed and times have changed. You may be surprised to see the many new and exciting activities taking place in our K-12 Physical Education classes.

With a focus on lifelong skills and fitness, the BFA Fairfax Physical Education Department which includes Nelson Murray, Heather Weeks, and Mike Brown, expose students to many new and exciting activities that enhance valuable skills and assets such as teamwork, goal-setting, decision-making, communication, and overall personal well-being.

Activities such as snowshoeing, fitness walking, rock climbing, yoga, circus skills, and the development of personal fitness plans are just a few examples of physical opportunities that allow students to challenge themselves at their own individual levels, and develop skills for a lifetime.

The smiles and positive attitudes that are present in BFA Fairfax’s physical education classes are certainly evidence that these classes are NOT your Mom-and-Pops PE.
