Georgia Elementary teachers spent two inservice days learning more about their incoming students than in previous years. Teachers reviewed previous years’ assessments and were able review, ask questions, and plot each student’s growth on a data wall.
The data wall will provide an ongoing accurate picture of student growth and support needs, to provide appropriate educational opportunities for every student. Each grade level team will meet regularly to analyze student assessments and collaboratively discuss curriculum, student work, and methodologies used in our instruction.
“The goal is to provide every child with what they need in order to be successful learners. Students will move as a result of appropriate instruction and support.” ~ GEMS Elementary Principal Steve Emery
Through weekly meetings, teachers will continue to meet, set SMART goals, and collaboratively work with specialists and special educators to intervene and provide best practices for each and every student.

This sounds like a very powerful practice. I’m anxious to see how it works.
