Target 4 – Engaged Community Partners FWSU staff and students will collaborate, innovate, create and conceptualize ideas and learning with local, regional, state, and global partners to make a difference in their community, state, and world.

Action Step – Engage community partners in a focused collaborative inquiry process.

Last week, Fletcher Elementary School hosted its first Math Game Night for parents,  students, and community members. PreK-6 grade students came to school in the evening  to play math games with family, friends and teachers.

Parents talked about mathematics and how children learn with Math Interventionists, while collecting resources to bring home, such as game packets and educational articles. Each child walked away with a book focused on a math theme, along with his/her own decks of cards to continue to play the games at home. After an hour of discussing math strategies, 10 participants won math games as a door prize.

The event, sponsored by FWSU in collaboration with FES staff, was organized by FES Math Teacher and FWSU STEM Coach JoAnn Harvey.

The entire evening provided a great opportunity for parents to encourage their students to love math. Students learned that math can be fun and exciting!
