Friday Fun with Flexible Learning

Target 3: Flexible Learning Environments – FWSU will maximize flexible learning environments by redefining the school day, promoting learning experiences that extend beyond the school classroom, and fostering creativity, innovation, and differentiated learning opportunities for all.

Action Step –  Develop opportunities for students to collaborate, innovate, create and conceptualize in all learning settings.

Every Friday at Georgia Elementary School, first graders have the opportunity to choose and sign up for activities outside their traditional classroom. Their teachers provide a list of diverse learning opportunities that will occur at the end of the week and students enroll based on their interests.

For an hour, students participate, collaborate, and work together in their selected activities as they explore and develop a love of new experiences.

Many activities are embedded within a Community Service Project. Others encourage physical activity. ALL of the options incorporate an enriching and educational experience. This week, due to the cold weather, students can choose from Lego Club, Science Club, Winter Crafts Club, and iPad Club.

Check out the following video, created by first grade teacher Melanie Dattilio, which was taken from a recent Friday snowshoeing opportunity.
