Ms Minor with Students

Students in Mrs. Minor’s Kindergarten class became water conservationists for the Science Fair on April 6th. All of the water collected as part of the conservation lesson was used in class for celebration of the Songkran Festival.

The Songkran Festival is celebrated in Thailand from April 13-15 as the traditional New Year’s Day. The festival is a time to visit and pay respects to one’s elders. The celebration pictures the ideas of cleansing and renewal with the throwing of water. Following the festivities, students shared that they felt like they were in Thailand! They enjoyed pouring water filled with flower petals over the hands of their teacher, principal, and librarian as is the tradition.

Students at FES have been learning about Thai culture all year as a result of the field study completed last summer by Mrs. Minor.
