After studying a unit on penguins, first graders at BFA were able to visit with the St. Louis Zoo to learn more about penguins through a virtual field trip. This interactive technology connected students using a Polycom video conference camera to watch and discuss penguins with a zoo educator located over 1,000 miles away.
In the lesson students interacted with the presenter to learn about the adorable penguins and puffins. In addition the first grade classes were able to participate in activities to learn about how these animals survive in their cold climates. Here is a short video clip of the students learning through this immersive technology.
