Thanksgiving is a time for reflection, appreciation, and a time to gather with families and friends to be grateful for everything we have. It is a time for laughter and enjoying one another’s company- a time to acknowledge and be mindful of the lives we live.
To help students understand the importance of this holiday many activities were incorporated into the daily routine at the Georgia Elementary School, and many parents joined their children to help celebrate this festive event in school. Diverse activities occurred throughout the week and children were exposed to a variety of learning opportunities for a deeper understanding and meaning of Thanksgiving. The following is a snap shot of those events:
Children attended assemblies to celebrate food gathered for our local food shelf.
Family meals were provided, by the Abby group, for children and parents to dine together.
Morning meetings were held and students shared what they are truly thankful for.
Kindergartners were asked “How do you cook a turkey?” and first grade students used math class to determine how to cook muffins?
From all of us at GEMS, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving (belated)!
