This is the 13th year that students and staff at Georgia have organized a food drive to help support their local food shelf. Recently, the food drive team (consisting of 5th and 6th graders) had the opportunity to visit the food shelf which is located in the back of the Georgia Public Library. Students were able to hear how important it is for our community to help each other in times of need. Jolly Bates, Coordinator of the Georgia food shelf, told the students that without the school food drive they would not be able to keep their doors open. The food shelf supports about 40 families each month.
For the next four weeks, the Food Drive Team will be collecting non-perishable food items. Each classroom grades PreK-8 will have collection boxes. In addition, the 5th through 8th graders will have an opportunity to participate in a Zombie Run on Friday, October 30th. All monetary donations will go to the food shelf. These acts of generosity are a true testament to the students’ and families’ commitment to their neighbors!
GEMS Collection Dates: October 20th, 27th, November 3rd and 10th
