On an annual basis, the BFA Fairfax athletic community, consisting of student-athletes, staff, families and fans contribute to assist the needs of both our local and greater Vermont communities through student-driven fundraising efforts. Every year student-athletes and National Honor Society members identify worthy organizations toward which they focus their community service.

This fall, multiple athletic events raised money and awareness for the two extremely important causes of hunger awareness and cancer research in the State of Vermont.   On the soccer fields, teams were seen sporting orange warm-up shirts in recognition of international hunger awareness, and halftime coin drops raised over two hundred dollars to donate to Hunger Free Vermont. At the Homecoming Dance, in place of an admission charge, students gained entry by bringing non-perishable food items that were donated to the Fairfax Food Shelf. Finally, at the annual “Battle for the Bonnet” football game at Winooski, Bullet football fans and supporters sold black and pink “Blackout Cancer” t-shirts, with all proceeds going to the Vermont Cancer Center.

These recent initiatives are just a few examples of the emphasis on giving back to the greater community demonstrated by the BFA Fairfax student body on a regular basis. These efforts are just one way our students embody our Mission of being informed, literate, critical thinkers who demonstrate responsible social and civic behaviors.
