For the second time in four years, Franklin West Supervisory Union has been selected as an Apple Distinguished Program.
Our designation by Apple was in recognition for an exemplary learning environment for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. Faculty and staff from all three FWSU schools have played pivotal roles in transforming our learning environments.
Our schools have demonstrated the Five Best Practices of an Apple Distinguished Program. Those practices are visionary leadership, innovative learning and teaching, ongoing professional learning, compelling evidence of success and a flexible learning environment.
“It is an amazing honor to be recognized by Apple for the second time. Our schools have transformed themselves into innovative, creative and authentic learning environments for our students. This matches the mission of Apple Education, which is to provide learning environments that support the way students/families live and how they best learn. The transformation in our schools could not have been accomplished without our strong board leadership, supportive communities and great staff. It really has been a team effort” – Superintendent Ned Kirsch

We are very fortunate to have visionary leaders who support technology integration for all grade levels along with teachers who embrace the possibilities that exist with having access to rich, relevant resources. Since our early implementation 6 years ago, we have made tremendous gains with regard to how technology is used in classrooms. Teachers regularly reflect on the SAMR model and our FWSU Action plan as guides when planning. This process has enabled our students to participate in many authentic experiences that were previously viewed as inconceivable. Teachers are able to expand their world and their understanding far beyond the traditional classroom. – Rhonda Siemons, Technology Integrationist
Target 2 – Leadership: FWSU students and staff lead innovative, personalized learning opportunities, both locally and globally.
Indicators of Success for this Target: Student and staff leaders innovate and take risks when faced with new challenges.
