Georgia First-Graders Make a Difference

Target 4 – Engaged Community Partners FWSU staff and students will collaborate, innovate, create and conceptualize ideas and learning with local, regional, state, and global partners to make a difference in their community, state, and world.

Action Step – Plan and manage instruction around problems relevant to students and their community and develop solutions for authentic audiences.

Regardless of age or grade, community service enables students to gain valuable insight and understanding of their communities and themselves. Our schools offer flexible opportunities for each student to participate.

At Georgia Elementary School, first grade students participate each month in a community service project to support local individuals in need. One of the goals of Georgia School is to make great efforts to remain connected with the Georgia community. Students always take an active role, fully engaging themselves in the work they do to give back to others.

In September, the first-grade class community project featured a clothing drive. For two weeks, families were asked to donate any unwanted clothing. The items began piling up and students began sorting and counting. They collected over 162 items including shoes, boots, jackets, and more. These items were then donated to the Recycle Shop of Georgia.

We are so proud of the accomplishments of the first grade class as they support causes that assist our neighbors in need. Thanks for making a difference!
