Georgia Middle-Schoolers Recognized for Creating Caring Communities

Target 2 – Leadership in a Student-Centered Learning Environment FWSU will foster development of teacher & student leaders who provide innovative opportunities for local and global student-centered learning.

Action Step – Provide multiple avenues for students and staff to lead, advocate, and serve within the school and community

On October 24th the Georgia Middle School will recognize their students’ achievements related to this years school theme: “Unity in Community.”  Each year a new theme is selected that helps cultivate a caring community in the school and beyond. Students who exemplify theme traits and act as role models for others to follow will be recognized by their teachers at the Recognition Assembly. They will also be awarded a GEMS “Unity in Community” t-shirt.

At the beginning of each year, 5th and 6th grade students are tasked with creating a design for the year’s theme. One design or components of different designs are chosen and printed onto t-shirts that are then distributed to students at Recognition Assemblies throughout the year. Students whose designs are chosen are also recognized at the first assembly and receive a shirt with their design on it.

There are four assemblies throughout the year, one during each marking quarter. This year the Recognition Assemblies will be held October 24, January 9, March 27, and May 22.

We are proud of our students’ efforts to develop a caring community and we look forward to highlighting their successes at our upcoming Assemblies!
