Are you are using a QR reader in your world? You may have seen these in stores or in magazines. But did you know that students are now able to use their iPad or a personal iPod to scan a Quick Reader (QR) code to access materials that are tailored to their needs? It is a quick, efficient way to give students access to personalized content that a teacher may have planned just for them.
If you have a smartphone, iPod, or tablet, you can try it now! Just scan this QR code which includes a student resource with background information about desert animals. Students can develop knowledge, vocabulary, and geography concepts by viewing the short video clip. A QR code such as this could be available in the classroom or at home for parents to use with their children to access quality material related to the day’s lesson.
FWSU Technology Integration Specialist Angelique Fairbrother provided professional development to our Special Education teachers this week to give them a glimpse of these kinds of new and innovative ways to use technology for individualizing instruction for young learners. The session introduced teachers to technology options that would benefit all students: communication technology, voice-to-text options, and social skills apps. All these focus on continuing to provide students with differentiated instruction opportunities. The Quick Reader option made real sense for teachers who were interested in giving students easy access to materials.
FWSU is attempting to increase student access to resources by using digital tools. Our goal is to provide multiple pathways for learning in ways that are responsive to the needs of diverse learners. This can offer students tools for learning that extend beyond the regular school day. These tools also enable parents to be engaged in their child’s learning.
