Target 1. Student-Centered Learning – FWSU students will engage in personalize learning involving collaborative inquiry, problem solving and creative learning opportunities.
Action Step – Increase easily accessible opportunities for global collaboration for teachers and students.
This week at BFA middle school, students participated in Mix it Up at Lunch Day. The event is a national campaign designed by the Teaching Tolerance project. It encourages students to move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch.
At BFA, staff handed out different colored stickers that corresponded to labeled cafeteria tables. The students then sat with others who had the same color sticker.
They were challenged to learn more about their peers and help build a stronger more inclusive school community. There was music and impromptu dancing that put everyone in a festive mood!
Mix it Up helps students to question social boundaries, appreciate diversity, and reduce prejudices and bullying behaviors. This has been a topic within school community groups and the day was a great success!
