KATHERINE MCELROY, School Counselor
Hometown – Sudbury, VT
Education – Hamilton College in New York: undergraduate degree in Sociology. UVM: masters in School and Mental Health Counseling
Teaching Experience – Counseling internships at Chamberlin Elementary, Williston Central and Middlebury College
Interests – taking advantage of all the great outdoor adventures that Vermont has to offer, particularly enjoying the lake in the summer and skiing in the winter.
Quotable – “I love being a school counselor because it allows me to get to know so many students, families and teachers and allows me to be involved in the school community in a variety of ways”
GABE GRANT, HS Science Teacher
Hometown– Fairfax, VT
Education– B.S. in Biological Science and a minor in Social Anthropology (University of Vermont), Licensed to teach 7-12 science by the Teacher Apprenticeship Program (TAP).
Teaching Experience– Student-teacher at Mount Mansfield Union High School. Long-term substitute in Biology at BFA Fairfax for the last year-and-a-half.
Interests– backpacking, acting, ultimate frisbee, science, and coaching
Quotable – “I’m passionate about biology, and enjoy working with students. This is a great time to be a teacher, and BFA has proven to be a wonderful place to work.”
JOE EMERY, HS Social Studies
Hometown: Milton, VT
Education: BA in History from UMass-Amherst in 2012, M.Ed from UMass-Amherst in 2013
Teaching Experience: This is my first job!
Interests: Huge fan of the Boston Red Sox. Enjoys being outside hiking and kayaking. Also recently started collecting vinyl records.
Quotable: “It is such a privilege to be a part of the BFA-Fairfax community. I enjoy learning about the past and am excited to hear students’ opinion on the matter. I anticipate learning as much from my students as they learn from me. I look forward to creating meaningful relationships with students, faculty, and the community at large.”
