Elementary students at BFA Fairfax recently participated in an annual Crowning Ceremony held during the weekly All-School morning meeting. This tradition marks the beginning of a new class of kindergarten students’ journey into elementary school.

A unique feature of this event is the role that the fifth grade students play. Each kindergarten student is assigned a fifth grade buddy. The students meet weekly and participate in coordinated activities throughout the year. Through these activities, the relationships that are forged are both special and enduring. This is an important BFA tradition, and it reminds all of us that we are connected and are a community.
The Crowning Ceremony begins with the kindergarten students walking into All-School morning meeting with their fifth grade buddies through an arch made by the extended arms of all the elementary students. The kindergarten students are then welcomed, serenaded, and finally “crowned” by their fifth grade buddies.

Welcome to the BFA Class of 2026!

pretty special!
