Indicator of Success: Students challenge convention and make contributions in their community, state, and world.

For over a decade students and staff at GEMS have organized a food drive to support their local food shelf. This year is no exception as the tradition of reaching out and giving back continues!

Recently, the food drive team (which consists of 5th/6th Graders) had the opportunity to visit the Georgia Food Shelf located in the back of the Georgia Public Library. Students were able to hear firsthand how important it is for our community to help each other in times of need.

Jolly Bates, Georgia Food Shelf Coordinator, told students that without the school food drive they would not be able to keep their doors open. The food shelf supports about 35 local families each month.

GEMS students gathered and donated 920 items. In addition, the 7th/8th Grade students participated in a special Walkathon and were excited to raise over $500 for the Georgia Food Shelf!

These acts of generosity demonstrate the serious commitment of our students and families to lend a helping hand to neighbors in need. In serving the community, students recognized that they can contribute and make a difference in the world as youth!
