Recently, students in FES 5th Grade Math worked with fractions in groups differentiated by readiness level. One group worked on understanding unit fractions by playing a variety of games with support from the FES Math Interventionist. Other groups worked on understanding equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions using a variety of methods.
One student reported that the class “…made me feel like a mathematician. If you look at the work it looks really hard, but when you actually do it isn’t that bad.”
Another adult supporting students in the classroom said that “work time was really successful. It was good to work with a group of kids who were thinking through each problem.”
