GEMS 7/8 grade took part in a walkathon on Halloween to benefit the Georgia Food Shelf. Students were asked to be sponsored to walk in honor of the 12th annual Meals Marathon Food Drive which continues through November 16th. While the GEMS K-6 community works to bring in food for the food drive, the 7-8 graders do their part by raising donations to help purchase items the food shelf might not otherwise receive.

walkathon 2014

The students brought in $360 and walked a combined total of 180 laps around the beautiful GEMS walking path. This is the equivalent of just over 4 marathons! Many feet allowed us to go further in donations and distance. In addition, the GEMS Student Council is also donating 40% of its upcoming dance ticket sales to the food shelf.

Way to go GEMS!
