Recently after school, fifty students, with the support of parents and teachers participated in the second annual Create it, Make it, and Take it activity. First grade teachers Stephanie Boutin and Mary Schraven developed this concept.
The idea behind Create it, Make it, and Take it is that students need opportunities to use their imagination in order to be innovative, collaborative, and creative within a self-directed environment.
Ms. Mary got students thinking by reading the book, What Do You Do With An Idea? by Kobi Yamada. After that, the students were provided a variety of resources, from cardboard boxes to glitter, to use in the development of their project.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the time and shared how much they like the chance to “make a lot of stuff” and to “make things that move”.
Students concluded the event with an assortment of goodies such as Rice Krispy Treats and Mud and Worms. Finally, students shared one word to describe their experience. It was a successful event and each student created a unique project.
Yay Makers! You demonstrate that learning = inspiration + creation.
