Monday, March 20th was more than just a normal Monday at BFA Fairfax.  Not only was it the official start of spring as a season, but more importantly, for multiple eager student-athletes at BFA Fairfax, it was the official start of the spring high school sports season in the State of Vermont.

BFA Fairfax High School students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of spring sports offerings including Baseball, Softball, Track and Field, Ultimate Frisbee, and Lacrosse. With Monday marking the first official day of practices for all sports (the one exception being baseball pitchers and catchers who were allowed to begin workouts last week per VPA regulations), the excitement was apparent as a variety of gloves, bats, sticks, spikes, and other pieces of equipment were visible in lockers and duffel bags throughout the school.

We are also proud to welcome some new coaches to the BFA Fairfax Athletic Department!

Zach Smith will be serving as our newest Varsity Ultimate (Frisbee) coach.  Zach teaches high school science at BFA and has a broad range of Ultimate experience including playing collegiately at the University of Rhode Island, as well as serving as the coach of the CVU Varsity Girls Ultimate team last season.

Frank Drury will be taking the reins as the new Varsity Softball coach.  Frank has coached numerous sports at BFA Fairfax, most recently serving as the Junior Varsity coach, and Varsity Assistant coach in our softball program.

Michelle Brown is well known in our BFA Fairfax community having served as our Varsity Cheerleading coach for numerous years.  This year she will be sharing the Head coaching duties with returning coach Karen Witalec-Krupa in our High School Track and Field program.

Mitch Thayer will be joining the High School Baseball staff as an Assistant coach.  Mitch is our Middle School Physical Education teacher, and brings years of experience both as a player and coach at Colchester High School.

Josh Metruk will be the newest addition to the High School Boys Lacrosse program, serving as Assistant coach.  Josh has been actively involved in the Fairfax United youth lacrosse program for over 7 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role.

We are thrilled to have a fantastic staff of veteran and new coaches alike, and even more excited to see the amazing talents of all our BFA Fairfax student-athletes this spring on the various fields and tracks.  We hope to see you loud and proud at an event this spring!
