Target 4: Engaged Community Partners – FWSU staff and students will collaborate, innovate, create and conceptualize ideas and learning with local, regional, state, and global partners to make a difference in their community, state, and world.

Action Step – Plan and manage instruction around problems relevant to students and their community and develop solutions for authentic audiences.

Have you heard about the FWSU Virtual Student Art Gallery? We have been displaying student artwork digitally on our FWSU Facebook since it launched back in October, and posting about it again in January. Using technology, BFA and GEMS Art Teachers share artwork by their students, offering them an authentic audience for their pieces.

Here is a sample of some the works that have been featured:

Student Artist: SYLAS T, Grade 3Beautiful Landscape"I used four pieces of masking tape. I bent it a little bit to make my birch trees. Then I painted fall colors and when I took the masking tape off, it was white just like a birch tree! Next, I added birch tree textures but NOT in a pattern. I put a black line and a grey line on the left side of each tree to show the shadow. I used a sponge to dab in leaves at the top of the trees and then I splatter painted all over the picture. Last, I added grass on the foreground. I really, really like my picture!"

Student Artist: ANNA S, Grade 5[ NATURE'S FAVORITE COLORS ] "I was inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe and her painting of Oriental Poppies. She includes only the most important details and is really creative with color. I didn't use the colors of the actual flower. I chose these colors because they are all the different colors of the rainbow."
