Tuesday marked our fifth annual Smart Start orientation program for incoming ninth graders and students new to BFA High School. It is a day for students to get to know their teachers, support block, and the school’s systems.
Students attended workshops and learned about our core values and essential expectations, as well as the importance of having a positive growth mindset. In addition students began to map their academic plans with guidance and had an opportunity to talk with 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students about being successful at BFA.
Students went through a simulated day to understand block scheduling and even practiced opening their lockers. In the afternoon students participated in more workshops and team-building activities designed to pull the class together.
We had 20 student ambassadors (Grades 10-12) come to school to help make sure the transition was smooth. The ambassadors led tours, guided students to classrooms, answered questions and generally helped to make sure the 9th grade students felt welcomed.
Smart Start was a great event and students reported that the day was most helpful.
Welcome Class of 2017!
