Target 2 – Leadership in a Student Centered Learning Environment. FWSU will foster development of teacher & student leaders who provide innovative opportunities for local and global student-centered learning.
Action Step – Ensure students and staff take an active role shaping their learning using rich, authentic questions, problems they identify, & diverse resources
Indicator of Success – Teachers embrace role of coach, facilitator and co-learner in a student-centered learning environment.
As the year begins its drift towards the end we paused this afternoon to celebrate our new teachers. Each year all of the schools within FWSU hire educators who we believe to have the skill-set necessary to impact our students lives forever.
However, teaching is a job that once was an individual endeavor that has now transformed into a collaborative team effort. In order for our new teachers to be successful, FWSU established a mentoring program to pair new and veteran teachers together.
The mission of the program is to provide support for teachers new to FWSU and to promote reflective professional practice using the FWSU Evaluation model as a guide. It is designed to promote:
- an ongoing dialogue that focuses on digital-age learning,
- collegiality, collaboration and learning among educators,
- continuous improvement of students and teachers,
- support and retention of new teachers.
Perhaps the greatest part of our program is the relationships that are fostered between mentor and mentee. Each year we learn that not only have the new teachers grown, but so have their mentors. Making our system stronger for students.
Thank you to our mentors, and thank you to our new teachers.
