Target 3 –Flexible Learning Environments. FWSU will maximize flexible learning environments by redefining the school day, promoting learning experiences that extend beyond the school classroom, and fostering creativity, innovation, and differentiated learning opportunities for all.
Action Step – Provide students w/ access to
content, resources, and methods for learning beyond
the school day and beyond the school wallsIndicator of Success – Students are engaged in answering authentic questions and solving problems in collaborative settings
Under a stunning blue sky this past Friday, BFA Fairfax 7th graders spent the day engaging in team building activities and individual challenges on the high rope elements.
Each year, students use this learning opportunity to get to know their new classmates and staff members, engage in cooperative games, and take risks. These unique experiential learning experiences allow each student the opportunity to learn about themselves and collaborate with their classmates to solve problems and support each other in accomplishing challenging tasks.
In today’s life and work environments there is an increasing need for students to master more than basic thinking skills and content knowledge. The Framework for 21st Century Skills states, “The ability to navigate the complex life and work environments in the globally competitive information age requires students to pay rigorous attention to developing adequate life and career skills.”
These include:
- Flexibility & Adaptability
- Initiative & Self Direction
- Social & Cross-Cultural Skills
- Productivity & Accountability
- Leadership & Responsibility
This day at Northern Lights provides a safe and fun experience for our students where they learn and practice these important skills necessary for being successful in school, a work environment, and in the community.
