The weather is getting a little cooler, the sunsets are coming a little sooner and school is right around the corner. The first sign of the upcoming school year is the arrival of our new teachers at FWSU. This year we have 22 new teachers joining our schools.

The two days our new teachers spent at FWSU were jam packed! The training encompassed all aspects of teaching and learning at FWSU.  In addition, day two saw our new teachers working directly with their assigned mentor teachers for the 2017/18 school year.

The topics covered included an overview of FWSU by Superintendent Ned Kirsch, overviews of the curriculum by Linda Keating, an overview of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), an overview of trauma informed schools by Dr. Joelle van Lendt, and overview of technology integration by Angelique Fairbrother.

In addition to learning about our system, our new teachers also took some time for creativity, fun and getting to know each other. We are excited to have them all as teachers and we look forward to seeing their work with our students.

In a future blog we will highlight more about the journey of our new teachers in their first year at FWSU.

Target 2 – Leadership  FWSU will foster development of teacher & student leaders who provide innovative opportunities for local and global student-centered learning.

Action Step -Ensure students and staff take an active role shaping their learning using rich, authentic questions, problems they identify, & diverse resources

Indicator of Success – Teachers embrace role of coach, facilitator and co-learner in a student-centered learning environment
