After a two-year Covid hiatus, the Vermont All State Music Festival was back in full swing this year. Put on by the Vermont Music Educators Association and hosted this year by Colchester High School, this three-day festival brings together the best high school musicians the state has to offer, from Rutland to Newport. Auditions are rigorous and the competition is stiff. This year, the BFA Fairfax Music Department was proud to send five young musicians to participate: Maddie Lutz (alto saxophone, senior), Allyson Dearborn (Soprano I, senior), Maddie Slocombe (Soprano I, senior), Kagan Whiteman (Tenor I, sophomore), and Alden Kalbfleisch (Bass II, sophomore). After two intense, 12-hour rehearsal days, our students performed a truly remarkable concert with their counterparts from across Vermont. It was an awe-striking performance, and a sure sign that music will live on through even the toughest of times.
Much Appreciation to Glen Wallace and Christy Maynard for their outstanding support of our students!
