WonderBFA Middle School students in grades 6-8 participated in a school-wide unit of study focusing on the book, Wonder by R.J. Palacio. This is the same book featured earlier on the blogThe study was part of a comprehensive instructional plan

Teachers read the story with students followed by discussion and activities in multi-age community groups aimed at raising awareness of differences and similarities – both internal and external. The four focus themes of courage, kindness, friendship, and character were highlighted in the culminating activity for the book.

Students created Public Service Announcements (PSA) that demonstrate a precept from the book. These precepts are sayings, such as:

“Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.” – Blaise Pascal.

Students participated in a gallery walk with classmates and teachers to view, discuss, and provide feedback for all of the PSA’s.

  1. awesome! we can only hope the students will take this to heart! adults should take notice of any acts of kindness and acknowledge them in some way….Great job!
